Miworth Taxable Services

The Miworth taxation process supporting our facilities (hall, rink, fields) has been in place for a couple of years now. The Miworth Facilities Community Consultation Committee (MFCCC) advises and makes recommendations to the Regional District (RD) regarding the spending of the Taxable Service funds.


Appointed by the Regional District Board of Directors to represent the community of Miworth, the volunteer members of the MFCCC work with the Miworth Community Association (MCA). The MCA, as a non-profit, volunteer Society, is responsible for the community facilities under an Agreement with the RD.

The MCA annually recommends a budget to the MFCCC, including ongoing costs, required maintenance, and new and renewal projects. The MFCCC reviews the funding request on behalf of the community at an open meeting and recommends a final budget to the RD. The MCA then oversees all approved activities and reports back to the RD on spending related to the Taxable Service. Then we do it again the next year.

The MFCCC and the RD also ensure sufficient taxation funds go into an Operating Reserve, which we can draw on in future years to fund larger projects such as replacing the hall's front deck and roof. In addition, as per the RD MFCCC Establishment Bylaw, the MFCCC considers Universal Design Principles, as provided by the RD, for all new community projects.


The MCA works incredibly hard to find and access a variety of grants to cover some facility improvement costs, as well as the many community events they host each year. One of the great advantages of having the taxation process in place is that the MCA can focus more on community activities and development, and less on finding essential grants to cover facility costs.

The RD has a December 31st fiscal year end, so the taxation budget and expenses follow the calendar year.  

The MFCCC is committed to transparency and communication with the Miworth community. All meetings are advertised and open to the public. Questions can be sent to the chair or secretary.
